Major League Baseball had a slew of scandals in its early years, perhaps the most significant being the rampant gambling which nearly destroyed the game. The fixing of the 1919 World Series brought the game to its knees as the name of "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and the "Black Sox" would forever be referenced when the mere mention of game fixing in any sport was invoked.

In truth, the Black Sox scandal was merely the culmination of years of game fixing, most of which has been erased by MLB and its protectors.

Other sins have since taken game fixing's place when discussions turn to the dark side of the game with steroids and collusion being the two largest. Yet even these scandals often get overlooked for how they altered the game see watch today.
